An Independent Baptist Church will tend to hold to traditional Baptist standards of music (hymns, no contemporary or rock music), Bible versions (King James Version only), and administration (single, male pastor, deacons as church servants). This is not always the case, and many of the churches listed within this category may not take the same stance, but this is typically what you can expect when you visit one of these churches. Be sure to check out the Tags on their listing page on this site, or visit their Statement of Faith, to find out for sure what each independent Baptist church stands for.
An Independent Baptist Church is an independent, autonomous, local body of believers, called out of the world for the purpose of glorifying God and preaching the gospel. 2 Corinthians 5 gives us the motive for our commission ("for the love of Christ constraineth us"), the means for preaching the commission ("the ministry of reconciliation"), and the method for communicating this commission ("the word of reconciliation"). The New Testament believer, as a part of an independent Baptist church, should be administering this ministry, the ministry of Reconciliation, in the darkness of the lost world around him.
Shalom Baptist Church stands on the Word of God as our authority for faith, our guide through life, and our hope for eternity. Forty Jewish sages transcribed God’s inspired Word for us, and we thank the Nation of Israel for giving us the Bible. Our desire is to be a blessing by offering a free copy of the Word of God to all people. Through the Tanach (the Hebrew Bible, also known as the Old Testament), God tells the story of the origin of mankind and the history of the Jewish people, but also gives many promises. One of those that we are celebrating is the promise of Jeremiah 31:31, “Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a NEW COVENANT with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.” Jeremiah 31:31
Today many churches are focused merely on what will make people attend and so they often turn into a business that is trying the next biggest thing to bring the most people possible. That is not what is true of Biblical church. We are convinced that God gave us His Word to reveal what He wants in every area of life. This is definitely true of how a church should run. And so the leadership team of Grace Baptist Church took hundreds of hours searching Scripture to find out the things that God wanted of local churches. We came up with hundreds and hundreds of principles but tried to categorize them into just a handful of biblical directives for the local church. And that is what we are all about. We are endeavoring by God’s grace to accomplish what He directs in Scripture.
