I left Harmony Baptist Church with my heart hurt. Myself and another church member found this Virtuous Women’s Conference on the Internet and decided to go. We love to fellowship and study the Word with other women believers. The young girls and the men were kind. However, the ladies were not welcoming at all. Example: the second lady I came in contact with…she looked to be about 70 ish, she was smiling and greeting a lady as she walked past her. I was a few steps behind and also smiled and said hello to this smiling 70 year old lady. She put a grimace face on looked me from my eyes down to my feet (never smiled or spoke a word), then turned her whole body away. WOW…talk about unkind! It is hurtful! I wonder how she would treat Jesus if she saw Him and maybe he wasn’t part of her group…an outsider. All u can say is that the the young lady at the front door was so sweet, so friendly and very welcoming. After that….well, the speakers were wonderful! The music was great! But, we were not treated well. There were other things done that were also hurtful. To sum up, we left with good notes from the speakers…great for Bible studying later. But, the way we were treated, I personally felt deflated as I left this church. This isn’t what I expected. This is something new that I have never experienced while visiting another Baptist Church. I too am a fellow Christian woman. I have Always felt a pull to welcome newcomers who come to my home church. This has been an eyeopener for certain. I had no idea there were people in other churches who don’t even invite you to the Sunday service following a ladies conference. My friend/fellow church member and I traveled from another state in a storm/flood to get to this Virtuous Ladies Conference. We were so excited to get there! All I can say is, I am so grateful for my hometown Baptist Church! This experience will not keep me from venturing out to other Baptist ladies events. It has, however, made me realize that I need to be deligently praying for other churches that are lacking in the area of making new people feel welcome and included. Harmony Baptist Church of Chattanooga TN is on my Sunday school’s prayer list. We will be praying for you! Please, in turn, pray for us as well. We all have shortcomings, where we fail in one area or another. We all need to be in prayer for one another and be vigilantly reaching out to the unsaved! Have a heart of hospitality! Remember Martha and Mary! There is work to be done, yes..but, don’t forget about sitting at Jesus’ feet….that fellowship time with one another. We have our wonderful friends at church. Don’t leave out greetings and kind gestures to the people whom you don’t know. It was just a sad, sad example of a Virtuous Lady, when the woman greeted the lady in front of me with the big smile and greeting… then greeted me with a frown that that spoke so much! Don’t make people feel unloved, unwanted! If I was not a Christian lady, I might have left your church to never return to any church ever again. Sad! Let’s do better ladies.
