It is very difficult for me to write this review because I do not like the thought of “gossiping”. But my hope is that my words may help another individual, couple, or family avoid the experience my family had with this church.

My family and I attended while looking for a “church home” in our area. We attended regularly (meaning every regular service, revivals, Bible schools, etc.) for approximately a year. The congregation is relatively small (something we enjoyed) and very involved with one another on a daily basis. Most of the members are friendly and welcoming, with the pastor’s wife being the absolute depiction of a Biblical and Godly woman, wife, and mother. But as with all congregations, there are exceptions to that welcoming Christ-like behavior.

Being Independent in name is truly in name only. The pastor and the congregation members “cherry pick” which doctrinal beliefs they teach and follow to suit their own personal lifestyle wishes. The pastor is quick-tempered, prideful, and incredibly judgmental of new converts, those young in the faith, or those who believe differently than he does. Many of the sermons were preached only on his opinion with little Scripture or Biblical truths to “back up” his statements. And unfortunately, as is the growing trend, those members who were more financially “blessed” often received less judgment on the part of the pastor.

After leaving this church, my family spent a short time out of a congregation because of the immense hypocrisy we had experienced here. Our children were most deeply affected because of their young and impressionable minds. I would advise anyone visiting this church be incredibly mindful of the “doctrine” presented during the teaching and preaching. Study Biblical doctrines carefully and deeply before, during, and after attending so that you may be able to recognize any of the untruths taught. If you are a strong, mature, single Christian adult, or possibly a married couple, you might find a home here, being able to overlook the doctrinal inconsistencies without sacrificing your personal walk. But I would not advise anyone who is young or struggling in their walk or those with any children to attend. You will not receive sound doctrinal instruction, and, if you are not vigilant, it could lead you down a very crooked path on your walk with The Lord.

    1. Mike Powell

I am deeply sorry this happened to you and your family. As the new Pastor (June 2017) I cannot account for what has happened in the past, but our church family as of now is not that way. We would love to extend an invitation to you and your family to please come and visit again.
