An Independent Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas
Old Paths Baptist Church serves the greater Abilene, Texas area as a “New Testament” Baptist Church. We strive to pattern our ministry after the one Jesus Christ established during his earthly ministry. It is our desire to be examples of Christ especially to our children, youth and community. We believe that leadership is key to training up children in the way they should go. We desire that our next generation will one day assume leadership of this local church continuing on the “old path” which we and our forefathers have trod. The leaders of today must take this humbling responsibility seriously and set goals and standards for the ones they guide. We provide a Christ-centered, Bible-centered program for all of our church in Abilene, Texas and trust that God will grow us we will become more like Christ.
Bringing Old Fashioned Revival Singing and Preaching to Abilene, Texas
We believe that the old paths are still the best paths, and that our worship should reflect the eternal God of the scriptures, not the fickle preferences of modern church-goers. We sing old-fashioned hymns and spiritual songs that have been enjoyed by God’s people for many years, choosing to follow the tried-and-true instead of the “new-and-improved” of modern “Christianity.” What Abilene, Texas needs is not a more attractive building or more appealing music, but Bible preaching to reach sinners with the gospel and spur the believer on to “love and to good works” (Heb. 10:24).
Church the way it used to be in Abilene, Texas
Before the advent of the LGBTQ agenda as a political topic, and before the divorce rate hit 50%, church wasn’t an entertainment event, but a time of reproof, rebuke, and exhortation for believers, with the goal of living a hold life. Now, after the final authority of Scripture has been removed, and morality has become subjective (and even optional), the “churches” that claim growth are those that cater to the every whim of the “seekers” instead of preaching the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27). Instead of “Thus saith the LORD, ” now we have “preachers” saying absurd things like: “God wants us to prosper financially, to have plenty of money, to fulfill the destiny He has laid out for us.”
We believe that this is a direct result of rejecting the “old paths” of Scripture and going down a path of people-pleasing humanism, based first and foremost on the rejection of the King James Bible as God’s preserved word. Today, churches, including here in Abilene, Texas, are no longer interested in preaching the gospel, but instead in attracting tithers to their membership. We’re not interested in that philosophy, and we intend to be different.
